Our Vision

By focusing on the goals that unite us, we are able to accomplish incredible things for young people and the communities we serve.

Our Philosophy

Our Troop is a boy-led, boy-run organization, but the boys must be trained to be leaders. One of the Scoutmaster's most important responsibilities is to provide the direction, coaching, and training that empowers the boy with the skills he will need to lead his troop. Scouts learn to become responsible for themselves and others through learning common-sense skills, the importance of teamwork, participating in outdoor activities, and assuming roles of leadership and responsibility.

Troop Meeting

A Typical Meeting
Our meetings start at 7:15 P.M. at Galilee Lutheran Church in Pewaukee, every Thursday. We start our meeting by posting the American Flag, along with our troop flag. When it is warm out, we do fifteen to twenty minutes of scout work after flags, and play games out side, like capture the flag. When the weather is not as nice, we do about twenty-five to thirty minutes of scout work, and then we play games like Alibi. After twenty or so minutes of playing games, we have announcements from any leader of scouts, and then we retrieve the flags.
About Fees & Fundraising
Where will our Scouting adventure take us next? We’re limited only by our imagination — and, yes, our budget.
Each Scout unit, Troop 87 included, is responsible for purchasing and maintaining it’s own equipment. Each year we embark on a project that will raise enough money to keep our program going. These funds help raise the monies needed to run the Troop and assist with re-registration of our Unit with the BSA and with Troop expenses during the year. This program also offers each Scout a chance to earn money to offset all Troop expenses.

Paying your own way
This is a fundamental principle of the Boy Scouts of America. It is one of the reasons why no solicitations (requests for contributions from individuals or the community) are permitted by units. Young people in Scouting are taught early on that if they want something in life, they need to earn it. The finance plan of our unit includes participation by the Scouts.

The Troop's entire budget must be provided for by our members, either through fund-raising or other means such as dues or fees.

Troop Fundraising
Every Fall Troop 87 embarks on our fundraising activity; selling Holiday Wreaths. This single project is intended to assist Scouts with offsetting as much of their financial responsibility as they are motivated to. All profits raised after meeting the annual fee requirement go directly into the Scout's personal account. Scouts can draw from their account throughout the year as they need. Participation in fundraising is not required, but meeting financial obligations is expected.

If any family has a financial hardship regarding the payment of registration, dues, or camping fees, there is assistance available. No boy will ever be denied the Scouting experience for financial reasons.
